CALCHÈRA Marmorino

FINE – Textured lime-based coating

FEATURES AND RANGE OF USE

CALCHÈRA Marmorino is a wall coating consisting of lime paste, colouring earths, marble powders and marble granules, vegetable additives and organic promoters providing good adhesion. After application it reacts with the carbon dioxide present in the environment, giving rise to microcrystalline calcium carbonate. When dried and cured, it nearly approaches limestone in strengthallowing thin layers to last many centuries. In addition, reacting at the same time with the calcium salts of the plaster, this product gives rise to calcium carbonate, a mineral with chemical-physical characteristics resembling those of building materials. CALCHÈRA Marmorino presents an excellent adhesion on mineral surfaces based on lime mortar or cement-lime mortal, even if seasoned. The vapour permeability of CALCHÈRA Marmorino is very good, insofar as the microcrystalline structure resulting from the precipitation of calcium carbonate does not modify the porosity of the plaster. Thanks to the high degree of alkalinity deriving from the inorganic nature of coating, CALCHÈRA Marmorino is particularly resistant to mould and fungi. To these peculiar characteristics CALCHÈRA Marmorino adds chromatic effects of great elegance similar to those of colour finishes of the past, thus making it suitable for use in the restoration of historic buildings.

RULES FOR USE – PREPARATION OF BASE

Lime mortar plasters, cement-lime mortar and cement mortar plasters, even though seasoned, devoid of patches or plastic coatings, if very absorbent, must be dampened with water the day before application of CALCHÈRA Marmorino. If mould or algae are present, first treat the surface with IGIENIZZANTE solution. Attention: it’s absolutely forbidden to use water-based or solvent-based primers.

APPLICATION

We recommend to apply with any type of surface a priming coat of FIXAFOND B400 to provide a uniform base.

The ready-to-use product is thixotropic. Mix it gently until it is workable. Should there be a liquid surface layer present, this does not affect the quality of CALCHÈRA Marmorino. In this case set aside a part of the liquid, stir the product and, if necessary, add a part of the liquid until the product is perfectly workable. Spread CALCHÈRA Marmorino FINE in two coats, using a stainless steel trowel, with an interval of 30-minutes/1 hour between the two coats. Finish off using a sponge trowel using a circular motion, as for a normal plaster. To obtain a smooth effect, finish it with CALCHÈRA Rasatura in one or two coats. Do not apply CALCHÈRA Marmorino on surfaces exposed to direct sunlight or with temperatures conditions that can drop below 5°C in the first 24 hours after application. Protect the treated surfaces for at least 48 hours from heavy rain. Clean all tools with water immediately after  use.
